Wilmington and the Southern Coast

Wilmington is a small- to medium-sized city in southeastern North Carolina between the Cape Fear River and the Atlantic Ocean.  It is at the far eastern end of I-40 (exit 420).

Things to see:

The Cape Fear Serpentarium has many snakes and reptiles on exhibit.

The NC Aquarium at Fort Fisher has many exhibits of freshwater and marine life native to North Carolina.

Beaches:

Wrighstville Beach is just east of the city on the Atlantic Ocean.

Fort Fisher State Recreation Area is about twenty miles south of Wilmington and has public beach access.

Parks:

Carolina Beach State Park is fifteen miles south of Wilmington on Pleasure Island.

Fort Fisher State Recreation Area is twenty miles south of Wilmington at the southern end of Pleasure Island.

July 4th Fireworks - The City of Wilmington shoots fireworks over the USS North Carolina on Fourth of July.  The following is a short video of the grand finale from the 2011 fireworks.
