This morning, I hiked with Rod for his Umstead to Carter-Finley
Stadium. We started at the Reedy Creek entrance to Umstead and hiked
along the Loblolly Trail. It was quite cold this morning, so I had my
coat on for a while. But Rod, despite being nearly 80 years old, hikes
fast. Trying to keep up with him and I warmed up quickly, losing the
coat before we left Umstead State Park. The Loblolly Trail continues
beyond the boundaries of the park as part of the City of Raleigh's
Capital Area Greenway. The trail comes out at the dam on Richland Lake
and goes around the lake to Reedy Creek Trail. Crossing the street
here, the trail leads through Schenck Forest and under Wade Avenue at
the "zombie" tunnel. Past the tunnel it continues under another shorter
tunnel under Edwards Mill Road and terminates at the PNC
Arena/Carter-Finley Stadium. We had lunch outside the stadium under the
wolf statue and then headed back. |
